These new approaches can benefit multiple markets although initially the company is targeting two major opportunities: high-volume mains power supplies and lighting applications.
The power semiconductor market is estimated to be worth over $16 billion and experiencing renewed growth and faster expansion than the overall IC market.
CamSemi’s approach is to offer advanced power management ICs that will help manufacturers find faster, simpler and lower cost ways to develop more energy-efficient power conversion products. Manufacturers are already under considerable regulatory and market pressure to cut standby losses and improve power conversion efficiencies but face a commercial dilemma:
- using semiconductor products that rely on topologies that are too expensive or difficult to implement for fast-moving consumer markets;
- or investing significant resources in creating low cost, fully customised solutions.
