1977年，国巨以量产规模及成本控制优势经营出精密电阻器的一方荣景，见证PC划时代的风华。当后PC时代来临，轻薄短小，瞬息万变的消费性电子用品和通讯产品趋势，让正值成长期的国巨意识到必须具有全球化体质，从服务面切入客户的供应链，才能预约国巨下一道成长曲线。

国巨透过三个策略：

(1)      一是整合被动元件零组件，1996和1997年将台湾第一大电容制造商智宝及台湾第一大电感制造商奇力新纳入国巨集团，让国巨成为世界三家唯一同时提供电阻、电容、电感被动元件的制造商之一。 2005年投资台湾第三大积层陶瓷电容制造商华亚，进一步拉升国巨产能成为全球第三大MLCC供应商。
(2)      二为布署全球通路，1994年透过购并新加坡电阻制造商ASJ取得东南亚市场，1996年深入欧洲，购并德国老牌高功能绕线电阻器制造商Vitrohm登陆欧陆，1999年并购北美经销商Steller，布局世界首要市场。
(3)      三为掌握核心技术，2000年顺利购并飞利浦被动元件部门，纳入国巨集团飞元（Phycomp）与飞磁（Ferroxcube）两家公司。

统合效率、成本、通路、技术的全方位优势，国巨完成全球化布局。从产能看国巨的市场地位，国巨晶片电阻器（Chip-R）月产245亿支高居世界第一，约占世界市场三分之一强，积层陶瓷电容（MLCC）月产145亿支排名世界第三，仅次于日本村田制作所（Murata）及太阳诱电(Taiyo Yuden)，而与TDK相当，磁性材料（Ferrites）每年13,000吨紧追日本TDK之后，列名世界第二。
